| | Surly From road to mountain to single speed, we make frames and parts you’ll like to ride. Tough and chock full of style.
A few weeks ago another guy sent pictures of the special plug-in racks he had made so he could deliver wine on his Big Dummy. There are countless others we and you don't know about who are doing things with bikes that heretofore had been the territory of individualists reduced to the fringes of consideration. There is finally a growing seriousness here in the U.S. to the larger discussion of internal combustion alternatives. And as we've witnessed here today, not just discussion but action. People are trying things. People are buying technology like the Big Dummy when it becomes available, and asking for more options. People are finding out they can do more than they may have thought. And not just weirdo bikers like you. People like your dad. Your aunt. Your kids.
I had a discussion with the girl at the video store the other day who wants to save money on gas this summer, and is going to start riding a bike. She's not a cyclist, just motivated. The first steps are the most important. I cannot remember a time when such talk was so seriously considered across the usual walls here. Good. It's a good time for this to be happening. The fruit is ripe. Options are sprouting up. People are thinking of new ways to do things that are cleaner, healthier, that are financially and environmentally sustainable, that open possibilities, encourage self reliance and social consideration, and that are actually fun too.
This, my friends, is freedom.

| | Ritchey Welcome to Ritchey Design, the home of exceptional bike parts and people who use them. Our ambition is to inform and inspire you about Ritchey products and how we contribute to the betterment of the sport through 35 years of design experience. Tom Ritchey is an icon of the sport, one of the inventors of the mountain bike, and our Founder, President and Head of Product Development. Backed by a worldwide team in California, British Columbia, Switzerland and Taiwan, our dedicated group of enthusiasts work tirelessly along with Tom to innovate and refine our components so that you can perform at your best and get the most out of your bike.
OVER 30 YEARS OF DESIGN INNOVATION
Tom Ritchey is one-of-a-kind. He continues to juggle his duties as president and lead designer of our company, now distributed in over 40 countries, while still logging 10,000 miles a year all over the world. His latest passion is Project Rwanda, which strives to further economic development in Rwanda through initiatives based on the bicycle. Inspiration often comes to him while out on a ride, generating ideas that he then processes as three-dimensional design images – in his head. This is followed by the creation of initial concept models, many of which he creates by fillet brazing pieces or scraps of frame tubing. It all comes naturally to a guy who taught himself to build frames as a teenager, and who designed some of the burgeoning mountain bike industry’s first frames and components back in the 1970’s. Every year Tom guides our R&D efforts in pursuit of both subtle improvements to existing products, or large-scale advances leading to new ones.
Drawings and finite element analysis are great tools, but we are always eager to prove our new designs in the real world. Starting with fatigue cycle testing, we strive for at least 2x the standard laid out by CEN (the European Committee which determines minimum safety standards for bicycles and components sold in Europe). We apply the same stringent standards to impact testing, meaning that before a proposed design finds its way onto a tester’s bike, it has already been proven structurally and then some. In 2006, we aligned ourselves with a respected German test lab in order to verify our own testing results. This outside authentication keeps us honest and ensures product releases meet the highest standards. Throughout 2007 and 2008 we will double our testing capacity. Once a product clears machine testing, prototype samples endure rigorous use by both amateur and professional riders alike, including our sponsored athletes around the world. By the time you put it on your bike, it has passed a global testing and approval process second to none.
We believe state of the art engineering is only useful when it delivers real benefit. Flashy products or the implementation of expensive materials or manufacturing have never been our end goal. That’s why “Logic” has always been the very best word to distinguish Tom’s sophisticated yet sensible approach to component design.
Everyone’s talking about “systems” and why you need to buy in to theirs. At Ritchey we believe in choice, and we have always strived to make it possible for someone to use a Ritchey component seamlessly with those from other brands. Naturally we believe that the more Ritchey products you use, the better your bike will fit and perform, which is why “Fit Logic” is a philosophy we live by: from the input we solicit from men and women riders of all levels and disciplines, to our product development efforts, to our work with bike shops around the world. Participating Ritchey dealers have Fit Logic posters on hand that show you our comprehensive bar/stem/post offering at-a-glance, so you can know what’s available from Ritchey that will help you feel more comfortable – and stronger – on your bike.

| | Titec The Best Part of Any Bike
What does it really mean to be the best part of any bike?
Well, it's not some daily affirmation given to us by a sweater-vested psychiatrist. It's a hard fact. To make the best parts, we rely on experience gained by years in the saddle, constant R and D and a company-wide desire to craft parts that endure both trail and time.
Titec is the part you keep
It's the brand for cyclists who like to buy things once.

| | Sun Ringlé SUN-ringlé Website Misplaced, Replaced
Sun-Ringlé was acquired by the Hayes Bicycle Group in 2005. Apparently, one of the things lost in the move to Wisconsin was the SunRinglé website. "Someone said they put it in a box with a bunch of BMX rims, bottle openers, and Moby seatposts, but I never saw anything," explained Marketing Manager, Joel Richardson. Fortunately, a new website has been launched at www.sun-ringle.com, which features all of the company's current wheel offerings for BMX, off-road, and road. "When you're transporting truckloads of wheels, rims, and hubs, it's easy to lose a couple little JPEGs and HTML files", explained Marketing Supervisor, Denny Yunk. "Fortunately, we were able to put together a nice little Flash site to highlight the '07 stuff. We're not going to risk losing it again, though. Joel's got it locked to the rack out front, right next to his downhill bike – which, I just noticed, has a purple Zooka stem..."

| | Bontrager Working out of his California garage in the early 80s, Keith Bontrager developed a reputation for crafting some of the finest handmade bicycle frames and components around. Keith's mantra was simple: strong first, light second. Today Bontrager offers a full range of road and mountain bike components, all rigorously tested to meet Keith's stringent standards for fatigue and impact strength, and all firmly grounded in Keith's no-nonsense design philosophy, valuing performance and usability, not fads and gimmicks.

| | Kore KORE's foray into the bicycle industry began in the late eighties as a contract manufacturer of bicycle parts in California. KORE's first signature part was the Thrashguard. In 1993, production of Thrashguards and seat posts had reached the point where it became feasible to "inKOREporate" and open an office in Southern California. KORE's offerings grew to include the first suspension-oriented lightweight skewers and a lightweight stem. By 1995 the offerings had grown to include two product levels: Elite which were American made products, and the Lite series, an assortment of components made in Taiwan. As Taiwan manufacturing prowess became more sophisticated, KORE moved more items there until today where 100% of KORE products are produced in what has become simply the best place to make bicycle components in the world.

| | Syncros syncros started out as a small, high end component company on Vancouver’s North Shore. A fresh approach to design led to timeless components that generated pride among those who had a syncros part or two bolted on, and envy among those who didn’t.
That was when a mountain bike was just that – a bike made for riding in the mountains. In those days, syncros parts were revered for their beauty, strength, and light weight. Those were the days when a new seatpost was considered a major bike upgrade, purple anodizing was avant garde, and suspension was just a twinkle in the eye of a few motocrazy engineers.
We can’t go back to those simpler times, and knowing how fun today’s bikes are to ride, we wouldn’t want to. But we can remind each other that whether you’re clocking vert all day in the bike park, ripping epic singletrack in the alpine backcountry, or banging elbows trying to chase down that holeshot, we’re all really just a bunch of big kids riding our bikes in the mountains. In a way, syncros has come full circle. And we couldn’t be happier about it.
