Yeti Cycles About Yeti Bikes Yeti has been building the best bikes on the planet since 1985. From their humble beginnings in a California garage to Yeti's new digs in Golden, Co. It has been a great ride for Yeti Bikes. Yeti started as a labor of love in 1985, when John Parker, a welder who built movie sets in Hollywood, bought some jigs and fixtures from a defunct bicycle factory and applied his craft to making Yeit mountain bike frames. His early days were spent honing his craft in the back of Matt Sweeney's special effects shop. As an ex-midget car and motorcycle racer, Parker knew the only way to legitimize and test new Yeti products was to go racing. So he loaded up his frames in the first ever mountain bike team box van and went off to the races. The Yeti frames immediately found a cult following among the racers, who found the Yeti steel frames solid, neutral handling and fast as hell. The Durango Years A move in 1991 from the Agoura Hills, CA facility to Durango, CO helped etch Yeti into the psyche of every hardcore mountain biker. Not only was Yeti the preeminent brand among racers, but it was located in the epicenter of the mountain bike world. Powered to victory by exceptional talent and innovative race machines, Team Yeti became the dominant race team in the late 80's and early 90's. It became apparent that Parker had PR prowess of PT Barnum and a keen eye for new talent. His ability to find and groom the best racing talent in the country made Yeti the talent factory for the industry. The race teams Yeti built are now legendary. Names like John Tomac, Myles Rockwell, Jimmy Deaton, Missy Giove, and Juli Furtado found there way in to the Yeti pit and then into the record books. Yeti's commitment to giving racers the best equipment on the circuit has lead to many innovations. Yeti was one of the first two companies to work with Easton's Chuck Texeira on developing taperwall tubes for bicycles. Yeti also pioneered the use of full-suspension in downhill racing, worked with innovative materials like carbon and thermoplastic, and tinkered with everything from shocks to disc brakes to help their racers go faster. DH innovations came from the fertile mind of Mert Lawwill, legendary flat track racer, who helped design the Lawwill DH bike. The current design is widely regarded as one of the best DH designs on the market. For more than 15 years, Yeti has been on the forefront of product development and one of the leading innovators in the bicycle industry. Driven by a passion for racing, Team Yeti has produced some legendary race teams that have included the best racers in the sport. Nicolai We do mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineering is a classic engineering science and is no longer limited to the construction of engines, motors or gears etc. Mechanical engineering is a combination of basic research and design. It concerns itself with the targets and the methods an engineer must follow during the construction process. Meanwhile components, assemblies or systems are created with computers by means of CAD-programs. This CAD-data is then subject to a simulation (finite elements analysis) and afterwards it can be manufactured on a CNC-machine. The 2Stage Dual Shock Suspension System is the basis of being able to create a bike that really performs and helps take your riding to another level. Here is how it works in its two stages (hence 2Stage!)... Without getting too techy on you, here's the low-down on how the system works...! The 2Stage dual shock technology consists of two air shocks - one tailored for small bumps and the second tailored for big bumps. Whilst the second shock automatically locks out during pedaling efforts, the first shock remains active for the small bumps and its movement is limited to only a few inches of travel which keeps a firm pedaling platform. When you hit it the trail, the first shock takes care of the small stuff and when the going gets rough, there is a seamless transition to the second shock where a new axle path takes over for the most efficient big bump absorption you have ever experienced. The 2Stage suspension design is not only totally active and very plush with 203-228mm travel, but it also retains "jump-pop" which translates to higher/longer jumps with excellent air-borne balance and control. Empire Cycles The AP-1 frameset is the culmination of two years design and development. We were compelled to start this project after years of watching manufacturers churn out endless clones. Don't get us wrong we have great respect for our competitors, we just don't want to be like them, we have our own ideas, we can think for ourselves… No sheep here! We've ripped up the rule book and burned it! All traditional frame building techniques have been consigned to the bin; tubes, welding, the lot. It's all fresh, blue sky they call it, a clean sheet. From the ground up every aspect of the AP-1 has undergone rigorous scrutiny. This is a state of the art machine utilising cutting edge manufacturing techniques. Dark Side Why all these things? We were not enjoy looking for some bike frames which hold some more then others and don't cost eyewatering price. We had inner need to make bikes by our taste. Bikes which can hold unbelievely much. We won't be afraid that something will break, crack and we will smash our head to some hard things in the city (concrete, asphalt, kerb, stairs) or in the outdoor (wood, hard ground, rocks). This is what nobody, who rides anything, wants. And at least we enjoy it! This is the reason why we found this project. We are two, Dušan Kaniarik a Miro Badinský.
