 | Spectrum Powder Works My first introduction to powder coating was through a local shop that did several bicycle frames as part of their regular business. It looked very interesting to me, but when I returned to this shop to have one of my own frames coated, I was disappointed to find out that they could only do very basic single color work. Any detail was just not possible, given the process. Being a capable airbrush artist, and having plenty of experience with liquid finishing, I wanted pinstripes, panels, fades and flames, not just a single color. But was the inherent durability of powder worth sacrificing all that cool looking detail? This is when my interest in powder coating really began to flourish.
There had to be a way that this environmentally friendly and incredibly tough process could be done more smoothly and with detail comparable to liquid finishes. After lots of research and countless hours of trial and error, it soon became obvious to me that liquid-like detail was possible in powder; it just needed a paradigm shift and a fresh outlook. Highly decorative powder coating has never existed until very recently, and I am proud to say that Spectrum is one of the pioneers. Since 1997, Spectrum has moved to a larger facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado and added new employees, many avid cyclists themselves. We have also picked up several more bicycle manufacturers, as well as custom motorcycle manufacturers and builders, and many others interested in only the highest quality custom finishes available. As a result of our recent expansion, we are excited to be able to offer more attention to the individual seeking a high-end custom finish.
